Mumbai, Jan. 30 -- A decision has been taken to merge both factions of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), but the official announcement on the issue will be made after the completion of the Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections, according to senior sources from both sides.

Discussions on the merger between the NCP led by Sharadchandra Pawar and the other faction, which was headed by the late Ajit Pawar, had been underway for the past six months.

The initiative for the reunification was taken by the late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar himself.
