Amravati, April 27 -- Despite multiple state-run initiatives aimed at tackling malnutrition, the tribal belt of Melghat in Maharashtra's Amravati district continues to face a grim situation, with 92 child deaths linked to malnutrition recorded between April 2025 and March 2026. In the same period, five maternal deaths were also reported, according to informed sources.

Serious gaps in healthcare infrastructure persist in the remote and hilly tehsils of Chikhaldara and Dharni, where residents struggle to access medical services.

The situation worsens during the monsoon, when several villages and hamlets get cut off, hindering both the movement of healthcare personnel and patients seeking treatment.
