Lucknow, April 4 -- Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, addressing the eve of former Deputy Prime Minister Jagjivan Ram's birth anniversary at the Congress state headquarters in Lucknow on Saturday, emphasized the urgent need to tackle caste-based discrimination at its roots.

"Currently, we are stuck treating the symptoms, but we must eliminate the disease itself," she said, drawing parallels between untouchability and a societal illness.
