Srinagar, Sept. 19 -- Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufii has written to the union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging him to view the case of jailed separatist leader Yasin Malik through a "humanitarian lens", noting that while she differ with Malik's ideology, his decision to renounce violence and pursue non-violent political engagement could not be ignored.

The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Malik is serving a life sentence awarded by a National Investigation Agency (NIA) court for receiving foreign funding and links with militant outfits.

The NIA has approached the Delhi High Court seeking enhancement of the sentence to capital punishment.
