Srinagar, Aug. 11 -- Kashmir's major political parties - ruling National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party- today termed the Centre's decision allowing the Lieutenant Governor to nominate five members to the Union Territory's Legislative Assembly without an elected government nod as an attack on democracy.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has submitted an affidavit in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court saying that the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory has the authority to nominate five members to the Legislative Assembly without requiring the "aid and advice" of the elected government.
