Shillong, Feb. 24 -- Two Agniveers died of suspected cases of meningococcal bacterial infection in Assam Regiment Centre of the Indian Army, Hqppy Valley, here in Meghalaya, an official said today.
An official said that the first case was reported on February 11, when a 30-year-old soldier was admitted to the Military Hospital, Shillong with symptoms consistent with meningitis and died.
A second case surfaced on Monday (February 23), wherein a 25-year-old soldier was admitted for treatment and later succumbed to the disease, an official said.
Official sources said around 45 soldiers have been admitted for observation and treatment, indicating a possible cluster of infections within the Assam Regimental Centre & Gorkha Training Centre.
