Shillong, Aug. 8 -- In a major boost to water sports and adventure tourism, Meghalaya will soon set up India's first Slalom Course at Umtham River, Ri-Bhoi district, said Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
On Thursday, the Cabinet approved the proposed acquisition of 14.6 acres of land along the Umtham River from Meghalaya Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation (MIDFC) to develop the country's only dedicated Slalom Course.
Slalom is a thrilling water sport where kayakers race against the clock, navigating a challenging whitewater course filled with gates that they must pass through.
Sangma said, "The project will cover approximately 14 acres, including 8 to 9 acres of tree plantation along the riverbanks."
