Shillong, Dec. 22 -- Padma Shri recipient and orthopaedic surgeon, Prof B. K. S. Sanjayhas expressed serious concern over the growing number of road accidents in India, including Meghalaya.

"Meghalaya's road accident fatality rate is significantly higher than the national average, even surpassing some other hilly states," Sanjay said, addressing a Road Safety seminar at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) hereon Monday.

He cited recent multi-casualty incidents to stress the urgent need for preventive measures.

The seminar was organised with a sole intention to raise an awareness about the rising incidenceof road traffic accidents, particularly in the North-Eastern region.
