Shillong, Aug. 2 -- The Meghalaya government has intensified its vigil along the inter-state border with Assam following the eviction of illegal immigrants in that neighbouring state.

"All entry checkpoints to the State have been further strengthened. We have increased manpower - not less than double or triple - to ensure 24/7 checking on the movement of people," Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home, Prestone Tynsong said.

On the growing demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to curb the influx problem, he said the government is currently examining whether to revisit the existing Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016 (MRSSA) or to introduce a new comprehensive Bill.
