Shillong, Feb. 5 -- In a decisive move to combat rising pollution levels, the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) has issued closure notices to six ferro-alloy factories following protests by residents of the Byrnihat area in Ri-Bhoi district, an official said on Wednesday.
The affected industrial units are M/s Khasi Alloys Ltd, M/s Shyam Century Ferrous Limited, M/s F W Ferrotech (P) Ltd, M/s Nalari Ferro Alloys Pvt. Ltd., M/s Pawan Castings Meghalaya Pvt Ltd and Mis SR (India) Bio Products Pvt. Ltd.
"The notices were issued for non-compliance with environmental pollution regulations and serious lapses in pollution control measures," a MSPCB official said.
