Williamnagar, March 13 -- The Meghalaya police on Friday initiated legal action against its own Havildar for failing to deposit his service ammunition in the Armoury Kote during the leave period.

The Havildar attached with East Garo Hills DEF had left behind his uniform and four rounds of live ammunition before going on leave in his rental accommodation within the Williamnagar mosque premises, Stephan Rynjah, the district police chief of East Garo Hills, said.

The recovery of the live ammunition came to light after a group of people on Friday morning reported to the district police that some camouflage dresses and live rounds of ammunition were found inside the Williamnagar mosque premises.
