Shillong, Feb. 9 -- A division bench of the Meghalaya High Court on Monday directed the state government to submit a detailed report within ten days on illegal coal mining in the state and the arrest of persons involved in connection with the February 5 explosion at an illegal coal mine that claimed 27 lives in East Jaintia Hills district.
The bench comprising Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh issued the directives, while hearing the matter linked to the mining disaster at Mynsngat-Thangsko area.
The court also warned that accountability would be fixed, and if necessary, further orders would be passed for the institution of a proper investigation and inquiry, by an independent or central agency.
