Shillong, July 3 -- The Meghalaya government has warned of tough action against individuals and groups involved in illegal collection of money from business establishments.
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home Prestone Tynsong urged individuals and businesses receiving such extortion demands to report to the police.
"Tough legal action will follow against those found engaging in such activities," Tynsong said following reports of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) militant outfit serving extortion notices and collecting illegal donations.
