Shillong, March 6 -- The Meghalaya government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for constructing 35 hatcheries and boost fish production in the state, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Thursday.
"Once these additional 35 hatcheries are constructed the state would have a total of 96 hatcheries and these would facilitate production of fish and meet the growing demands of the market," he said while replying to a query raised by Opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) member, Heavingstone Kharpran in the assembly.
Currently Meghalaya has 61 hatcheries that are producing 24.7 million fingerlings.
