Shillong, Oct. 1 -- The Meghalaya government will release around Rs 50 crore to the cash strapped Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) so as to help them in meeting the salary expenses of their employees who have been staging a protest over the delay to disburse their dues.

The financial package was approved by the state government to support the GHADC for clearing of salary arrears and ensure timely payment of salary to the employees.

After chairing the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma said that the Rs 50 crore package includes Rs 24-25 crore from the GHADC's own share of taxes, and another Rs 25 crore more (advance share of the council) required to pay the 12 months backlog and also to pay the salary from Novembe...
