Shillong, April 3 -- Meghalaya Governor Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar has constituted a committee to examine the long-standing demand for the establishment of a 'winter capital' in Tura, the divisional headquarters of the Garo Hills Division in western part of Meghalaya.

The all-party committee, comprising recognised and registered political parties, will be headed by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma or a Cabinet Minister to be nominated by the Chief Minister.

Chief Secretary Donald Philips Wahlang said the term of reference of the Committee is to study and examine the feasibility of setting up of Winter Capital in Tura and examine the advantages and disadvantages of having two state capitals based on the demands made by various...
