Shillong, July 29 -- The Hill Farmers' Union (HFU) in Meghalaya on Tuesday urged the state government to undertake measures to alleviate farmer grievances, calling for a new agricultural policy.
The HFU, representing the farming community across the state, held an interaction with the Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister, Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh also pressed for greater subsidies, extension of the broom collection season as promised by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
The Union also demanded inclusion of farmer representation in policymaking bodies of the State.
