Shillong, Dec. 17 -- Meghalaya Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday questioned the rationale behind the central government's decision to continue retaining Prof. P.S. Shukla as Vice-Chancellor of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) despite widespread opposition from various stakeholders of the varsity.

"What is the rationale behind the thought of the Ministry of Education not to replace the incumbent Vice-Chancellor," Rymbui asked.

"If the central government doesn't listen to the stakeholders, how can it expect to improve the education system?" Rymbui said, adding that the state government is trying to urge the union Ministry of Education to address this issue for the benefit of the students and the education in Meghalaya.
