Shillong, Feb. 26 -- Health authorities in Meghalaya are awaiting laboratory test results to determine necessary Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) following the deaths of two Agniveer trainees at the Assam Regimental Centre due to suspected meningococcal bacterial infection.
At least 28 other Agniveer trainees with suspected meningococcal bacterial infection are admitted to the Military Hospital and are under close medical observation, Health and Family Welfare Minister Wailadmiki Shylla said.
An army official said that the first case was reported on February 11, when a 30-year-old soldier was admitted to the Military Hospital, Shillong, with symptoms of meningococcal bacterial infection and died.
