Shillong, Jan. 7 -- Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers under the banner of Meghalaya Asha Workers union (MAWU) on Wednesday have decided to go on indefinite strike from Thursday over the non-payment of their honorarium and incentives.
"We have decided to suspend work until the government pays the incentives to the ASHAs in the whole state," MAWU president Sony Kharjana told reporters.
She said the MAWU had apprised the Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM) on December 15, 2025 on their dues.
"We had set a deadline to the state government on December 19, 2025 to clear the dues, but the incentives remain unpaid," Kharajana said, justifying their decision to launch the indefinite strike.
