Guwahati/Shillong, June 2 -- Meghalaya and Assam on Monday agreed in principle to jointly commission the long-stalled Kulsi multi-purpose irrigation and hydroelectric power project.



This decision was taken during a meeting between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma held on Monday at Guwahati.



Sangma said the two states have discussed and agreed to jointly commission the Kulsi multi-purpose irrigation and hydroelectric power project, post discussion with people at large.



"We have decided with the condition, of course, that the people living in those areas will be taken into confidence, discussions will be held with them, and we will find a way forward on how we take this project...
