Tura, Feb. 10 -- Authorities on Tuesday demolished illegal brick earth mining and brick kilns in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district for allegedly violating pollution norms.
The crackdown was conducted following investigation and reports from multiple sources regarding illegal activities in the Gomaijhora area under the Phulbari and Batabara areas in West Garo Hills.
"The enforcement action was initiated after the brick kiln units were found to be in direct violation of the Meghalaya Minor Mineral Concession Rules (MMMCR), 2016. The units were operating without valid Consent to Establish (CTE) and Consent to Operate (CTO) from the State Pollution Control Board," District Level Task Force (DLTF) member secretary, Rupankar Marak said.
