Shillong, Sept. 15 -- The body of a four-year-old girl, suspected to have been murdered, was found today morning, within 24 hours after the child had mysteriously gone missing on Sunday morning.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the state, drawing wide condemnation as safety of children is at stake.

The body was recovered from an under-construction building near her house at Nongrah Nonglum Brei village here on Monday morning.

The dead body of Insaphira Lyngdoh Mawnai was first spotted by the workers. The child's body was seen with the face down, and a stone weighed down on her back lying in a stagnated rainwater in the ground floor of the under-construction building.
