Meerut (UP), March 10 -- Shahar Qazi of Meerut and former Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Board Prof Zainul Sajiddin passed away on Monday after his health suddenly deteriorated, family sources said here.
Prof Sajiddin was 80 years old and retired in the year 2005 after serving as a professor in the Department of Theology of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). He was appointed as the Chairman (Minister of State) of the Madrasa Board during the tenure of the Samajwadi Party government. He was also awarded the President's Award.
As soon as the news of Shahar Qazi's death spread, a wave of mourning ran here and people started coming to his residence in Purani Tahseen, Shahar Kotwali to express condolences.
