Meerut, Jan. 27 -- A Junior Engineer (JE) of the Irrigation Department in Meerut was arrested red-handed by the Vigilance team while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. During the operation, the Vigilance team recovered an additional Rs 54,000 from the JE's pocket and Rs 7.46 lakh from his car, taking the total cash recovery to nearly Rs 10 lakh.
According to Vigilance officials, the accused JE, Brijraj Singh, had been demanding a bribe from a contractor in exchange for clearing pending payments for completed work. The contractor was reportedly being harassed for a long time, following which he approached the Vigilance department and lodged a complaint.
