Kathmandu, April 25 -- Thousands of ailing patients in Nepal were denied treatment on Friday as the country's doctors' body called a nationwide boycott of all services except emergency and intensive care in solidarity with resident medics protesting over the stipend gap between private and government medical colleges.

According to The Kathmandu Post, resident NMA doctors pursuing MD/MS degrees in private colleges have been demanding stipends on par with those of government-owned colleges, who are currently receiving less than half the amount of their government counterparts.

Currently, postgraduate students (MD/MS) at government-owned institutions receive NPR 48,737 per month, which is equivalent to the salary of a gazetted officer. Priva...
