New Delhi, Feb. 27 -- The Ministry of External Affairs has taken up the case of Indian student, Neelam Shinde, who is in critical condition after a car accident in California, sources said.

The US side is looking into the formalities for early grant of visa for her family, the sources added.

Neelam Shinde, 35, a student from Satara, Maharashtra, is in critical condition after a car accident in California on February 14. She is currently in a coma and being treated in the ICU, Supriya Sule, a Member of Parliament, told the media.

The driver who allegedly caused the accident has been arrested.
