Bengaluru, Sept. 29 -- Karnataka water resources minister MB Patil today said that the state will take all necessary steps to protect its interests in the Bhima river water dispute, stressing that diversions and storage projects proposed by Maharashtra will not be allowed to harm Karnataka.
Patil recalled that surveys on the Krishna Neeravari Nigam Limited (KNNL) scheme had earlier estimated availability at around 49-50 TMC. "They (Maharashtra) are now seeking unnecessary clearance from the Central Water Commission (CWC) despite commissions already making it clear that the Almatti dam does not cause floods in Sangli or Kolhapur," he told reporters.
