Lucknow, Aug. 7 -- Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati today strongly criticized the recent imposition of heavy tariffs by the United States on Indian goods, calling the move a betrayal by a so-called "friendly" nation.
Drawing parallels with BRICS nation Brazil, which has also been subjected to similar trade restrictions, she emphasized that the nearly 50% tariff imposed by the US is a direct blow to India's economic interests.
In a statement shared on social media today, Mayawati said that while the Indian government has responded by terming the US decision "unjust, unfair, and irrational," the Indian public sees it as a "betrayal and a deliberate attempt to weaken the country."
