Lucknow, July 2 -- Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati has opposed the Uttar Pradesh government's decision to integrate primary schools in the state.

In a statement here today, Mayawati said the decision taken by the UP Basic Education Council, which has closed a lot of schools under the guise of coupling/integration of primary schools, is not justice to the easy and cheap government education system given to crores of children of poor people near their home.

"This action appears to be inappropriate, non-essential and anti-poor. There is an appeal to the government that it should immediately withdraw this decision of its coupling/integration in the interest of poor students," she demanded.
