Montevideo, July 11 -- Former Valencia forward Maximiliano Gomez has joined Uruguay's Club Nacional after parting ways with local rival Defensor Sporting.

The 28-year-old signed a contract that runs until December 2026, Nacional said on Thursday.

"Maxi will join the squad on July 14, bringing experience and authority to the Clausura 2025 campaign," the statement read.

Gomez rejoined his original club Defensor Sporting on a short-term deal in February after more than seven years in Europe, where he had spells with Celta Vigo, Valencia, Trabzonspor and Cadiz.

He has 32 Uruguay caps and was a member of the Celeste's World Cup squads in 2018 and 2022.
