Beltangady, Aug. 23 -- The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has taken CN Chinnayya alias Chenna, a self-proclaimed whistleblower in the Dharmasthala case, into 10 days of custody after his claims of mass burials were found to be false.
Police said the Beltangady court today granted SIT custody of Chinnayya till September 3. He was arrested earlier in the day, subjected to a medical examination, and then produced before the court.
Chinnayya, who hails from Mandya, had created a sensation by claiming that hundreds of bodies were buried in Dharmasthala. However, SIT found inconsistencies in his statements and withdrew the security provided to him under the Witness Protection Act, after which he was arrested.
