Mangaluru, Dec. 28 -- Calling Kambala a "unique sporting tradition", Olympic boxing legend Mary Kom on Sunday attended the ninth edition of the Mangaluru Kambala, lending national prominence to the traditional buffalo race of coastal Karnataka.
The event, held at Goldfinch City in Bangrakuluru under the leadership of Dakshina Kannada Member of Parliament Capt Brijesh Chowta, drew thousands of spectators.
Nearly 170 pairs of racing buffaloes competed across categories, reaffirming Kambala's status as one of the most significant indigenous sporting traditions of Tulunadu.
Addressing the gathering, Mary Kom greeted the people of the region in Tulu, saying "Mantheregla Namaskara," drawing loud applause.
