Ayodhya (UP), May 24 -- The mortal remains of martyr Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari, who made the supreme sacrifice in Sikkim, were consigned to flames with full state honours at a ghat in Ayodhya on Saturday.

Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari, who attained martyrdom while saving a fellow soldier in Sikkim, was a resident of village Gaddapur Manjhwa in Ayodhya. He was 22 years old when he attained martyrdom.

The mortal remains of Lieutenant Tiwari were brought from Siliguri's Bagh Dogra Airbase to Ayodhya by a special plane and kept in the military hospital overnight. His last rites were performed with state honours today at Ayodhya's Jamthara Ghat.
