Ch. Sambhajinagar, Sept. 18 -- Marathwada has suffered its highest monsoon-related death toll in a decade, with 52 fatalities recorded since June 1, 2025, according to the divisional commissioner's office.

Two major flood events in early and late August, in Nanded and Latur districts, prompted Army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) assistance for rescue operations.

Lightning strikes during thunderstorms have also significantly contributed to human and animal casualties across the region.

District-wise figures show Nanded bore the brunt with 18 deaths, followed by Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar with 11 fatalities.
