Mumbai, Sept. 1 -- The Hyderabad Gazette has been cited as strong evidence of proving that the Maratha community in Marathwada belongs to the Kunbi category.

On this basis, members of the Maharashtra Cabinet Sub-Committee on Maratha Reservation have urged the government to immediately begin issuing Kunbi caste certificates to Marathas in the region.

According to the Hyderabad Gazette, the Maratha community of Marathwada has historically been economically, socially, and educationally backward. Their livelihood has largely depended on farming, labour, and other menial occupations. Activists argue that distribution of Kunbi certificates in Marathwada should start without delay.
