Ranchi, April 3 -- Senior CPI (Maoist) leader and politburo member Prashant Bose, also known as Kishan Da, died at a Ranchi hospital on Friday after prolonged illness, officials said.

Bose, who carried a bounty of Rs 1 crore, had been lodged in Birsa Munda Central Jail since his arrest in 2021. He was shifted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) after his health deteriorated and died during treatment.

Inspector General (Prisons) Sudarshan Mandal confirmed the death.

Bose was arrested along with his wife Sheela Marandi and others in November 2021 during a joint operation by Jharkhand Police and the CRPF in Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
