Imphal, Dec. 4 -- The Joint Tribes Council (JTC) of Manipur, representing the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme Naga communities, has submitted an urgent appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking decisive intervention against what it describes as unchecked illegal migration and its adverse impact on indigenous communities in the state.

In a memorandum forwarded through the Governor of Manipur, the JTC expressed alarm over the "growing influx of illegal migrants" from Myanmar and neighbouring Indian states.

According to the council, the influx has strained local resources and now threatens the cultural identity, demographic balance, and land rights of indigenous populations.
