Imphal, Dec. 31 -- As people of Manipur demand protection of religious sites of the Manipuris, especially occupied by Kuki militants, over 40 acres of land in the sacred Thangjing hill were found to be destroyed and planted with poppy by drug traffickers.

Manipur Police said a combined team of Manipur Police, Forest Department, CRPF, along with the Executive Magistrate, destroyed 40 acres of illicit poppy cultivation in the Mongken area in the Thangjing hill range, Henglep Sub-Division, Churachandpur district on Tuesday.

Thangjing hill is considered sacred to the Manipuris, and since 2023, no Manipuri, especially Meitei, has been able to go to the hill for pilgrimage as it is now occupied by Kuki militants. Most of the sacred hills of the...
