Imphal, Jan. 8 -- A memorandum was submitted tothe Manipur Governor AK Bhalla by Maisnam Raghumani Singh, president, Ward No. 6 United Club, Uripok, seeking urgent intervention for the comprehensive desiltation and rejuvenation of the entire stretch of the Nambul river.

The memorandum highlighted the severe environmental degradation of the Nambul, a vital lifeline of the Imphal Valley that plays a crucial role in urban drainage, ecological balance, and public health.

The river has been affected by prolonged neglect, large-scale deforestation in catchment areas, unchecked silt accumulation, continuous discharge of untreated sewage, dumping of solid and plastic waste, and rampant encroachments along the banks.
