Imphal, Oct. 7 -- Mera Hou Chongba festival was celebrated with solemnity and splendour today at Kangla, reinforcing the enduring cultural bond between all the communities of Manipur.

The old age festival began with a majestic procession from Sana Konung (Royal Palace) to Kangla, attended by Leishemba Sanajaoba, titular King of Manipur, representatives of various communities and cultural troupes.

The festival, which falls on the fifteenth lunar day of the Mera month in the Manipuri calendar was marked with various rituals, exchange of gifts between various communities.

The day-long celebration featured a series of vibrant cultural programmes, including traditional dances, songs, and performances by troupes from all parts of the state.
