London, Dec. 15 -- Manchester City and Aston Villa both claimed victory to stay within striking distance of Premier League leader Arsenal.

After Arsenal's home victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, the two sides responded with important wins of their own.

Two goals from Erling Haaland helped Manchester City to a 3-0 win away to Crystal Palace, who began the weekend fourth in the table and had chances to open the scoring before Haaland struck in the 41st minute.

Phil Foden doubled the lead in the 69th minute, and a Haaland penalty in the final minute sealed a win that followed Manchester City's midweek triumph against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
