Shillong, April 6 -- A special POCSO court here in Meghalaya has sentenced a man to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting his minor daughter, a police official said on Monday.
The accused, Deepak Thapa, committed a penetrative sexual assault on his own daughter in 2022.
In a statement issued, Vivek Syiem, the district police chief of East Khasi Hills, said, an FIR was registered at Rynjah Police Station on October 5, 2022 against Thapa. The accused was subsequently arrested and booked under the POCSO Act.
The accused was kept under judicial custody for three years, five months and 26 days during the course of the trial, Syiem said.
