Khandwa (MP), Oct. 12 -- A court in this district has handed down the first capital punishment in Madhya Pradesh under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Second Additional Sessions Judge Anil Chaudhary awarded the death sentence yesterday to Champalal alias Nandu (23) of Chhanera village for axing his neighbour on suspicion of witchcraft.
The prosecution was represented by Assistant District Prosecution Officer Vinod Kumar Patel whereas Sub-Inspector Ramprakash Yadav was the investigating officer. The incident dates back to the night of December 12, 2024 when Ramnath Bilotiya's head was severed. Following a complaint by the deceased's wife Shantibai, a case was registered at Pandhana Police Station and the accused placed under arrest soon.
