Tumakuru, June 29 -- A missing persons case in Tumakuru district took a grim turn after police uncovered that the man reported missing had in fact been murdered by his wife and her aide.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Venkat said the case, registered on June 25, involved Shankaramurthy, who had gone missing from his residence. His wife, Sumangala, had filed the initial complaint.

"During our preliminary inquiry, we found inconsistencies in the statements. The scene of the alleged disappearance also appeared suspicious," SP Venkat told reporters today.
