Thane, Dec. 22 -- The police have arrested a man for allegedly pushing a female college student from a moving local train near Panvel in Thane district. The accused was apprehended from Khandeshwar railway station late Sunday night.

According to officials of the Panvel Railway Police, the incident occurred on Friday when the student, a resident of Panvel and a college-goer in Kharghar, was travelling between Panvel and Kharghar by local train.

Police said the accused, identified as Sheikh Akhtar Nawaz, forcibly entered the women's compartment at Khandeshwar station. When women passengers objected to his presence, he allegedly pushed the student out of the slowly moving train and fled from the spot.
