Kozhikode, Dec. 26 -- In a major relief to residents of Vandikkadavu in Pulpally, Kerala's Wayanad district, the Forest Department captured a tiger that mauled a tribal man to death. The animal was trapped in the early hours of Friday.
The tiger fell into a cage laid at Hajiyar Kadavu in the Vandikkadavu forest region around 1:30 am. Forest officials confirmed that the captured tiger was the same animal involved in the killing.
The tiger had attacked and killed a 65-year-old tribal man, Maran, at Chethimattam under the Vandikkadavu forest station limits on Saturday. Maran was reportedly attacked while collecting firewood, dragged deep into the forest, and later succumbed to his injuries while being brought out.
