Amravati, Dec. 6 -- The sixty-second kidney transplant at the Divisional Referral Service (Super Specialty) Hospital in Amravati was successfully performed on a 27-year-old patient suffering from kidney failure, the hospital authorities said on Saturday.

The patient, Shubham Vishnu Khobarkhede, had been undergoing dialysis for several months, and doctors advised that a transplant was essential for long-term survival.

At this crucial stage, his father, 60-year-old Vishnu Rathi Ramji Khobarkhede, volunteered to donate one of his kidneys to save his son's life. The procedure, carried out under the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, was completed entirely free of cost, giving the young patient a renewed chance at life.
