London, Oct. 6 -- Manchester City defender Nico O'Reilly has been called up to the England senior squad for the first time after Reece James was forced to withdraw through injury, the English FA announced on Monday.
James, who suffered a shin wound during Chelsea's Premier League victory over Liverpool on Saturday, has been ruled out of action following medical assessments. The right-back later shared a picture of the gash on social media.
O'Reilly, 20, steps up from the England Under-21s for the fixtures against Wales on October 9, and Latvia on October 14.
Although primarily a left-back for City, his inclusion leaves Djed Spence as the squad's only specialist right-back.
