Pratapgarh, Sept. 26 -- A woman was allegedly murdered by her husband in Mandhata of Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district today, police said.

Initially, the accused tried to mislead the police by pretending to be distraught and blaming unknown assailants. However, a critical clue at the crime scene led to his arrest and eventual confession.

The incident occurred in Pure Bhaggu Ka Purwa, Peepar Tali, under the Mandhata police station limits. Shravan Kumar, who works in an orchestra, was married to 32-year-old Sunita Devi for the past 17 years.

Sunita, daughter of Harishchandra from the Dhema area, was the mother of three children: 15-year-old Falak, 12-year-old Nishant and 10-year-old Ahem.
